Work with Function Wizard
Function Wizard is a guided task pane in Jet Online that helps you build financial functions directly in Excel. Instead of writing formulas manually, you select a function, fill in the required fields, and apply the result to a cell. This topic walks you through the Function Wizard workflow using the GL (General Ledger) function as an example.
Step 1: Open Function Wizard
- Open a workbook in Excel with the Jet Online add-in enabled.
- Select the cell where you want to insert the function result.
- On the Jet Online ribbon, select Function Wizard. The Function Wizard task pane is displayed on the right-hand side of the Excel window.
Step 2: Select a Function
The task pane lists all available financial functions. Select the function you want to use. For this example, select GL. The GL function panel is displayed with fields specific to that function.
Each function exposes a different set of fields. The fields described below are specific to the GL function. When you select a different function, the task pane updates to show the fields relevant to that function.
Step 3: Configure the Function Fields
Fill in the fields to define what data the function retrieves. For the GL function, provide the following details:
-
What: The type of balance to retrieve. Select one of the following options:
- Balance: The account balance.
- Budget: The budget amount.
- Credits: The credit amount.
- Debits: The debit amount.
- Account: The account from which to pull data.
- Start Date: The start date of the reporting period.
- End Date: The end date of the reporting period.
- View: The view type for the data.
- Dimension 1 / Dimension 2: Optional dimension codes to further filter the data.
- Company: The company for which to retrieve data (for example, Chronos USA).
- Data Source: The connected ERP data source from which the data is pulled (for example, Cloud BC).
Step 4: Apply the Function
- After you fill in all required fields, select Apply. Jet Online generates a GL formula in the selected cell and connects to the specified ERP data source to retrieve the data.
- Verify the returned value in the cell. The GL function returns a single numeric value based on the filters you provided (for example, the revenue amount for account 1000 for January for company Chronos USA, sales department).
You can edit the function at any time by selecting the cell and reopening Function Wizard. The task pane repopulates with the current field values so you can adjust filters without rebuilding the formula from scratch.
