Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs Online Add-In

Other ERPs - this article only applies to Reporting Intelligence for other ERPs

Overview

The Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs Online Add-In is a Microsoft Excel add-in that runs in Excel Online (Microsoft 365). Use the add-in to execute Reporting Intelligence formulas and work with reports directly in a browser, with results written back into the open workbook.

A single unified add-in package is available for download. Anyone with a Reporting Intelligence license can download and install the Online Add-In at any time. The ribbon tab and features that appear after sign-in are determined by the license entitlement on the account.

At launch, the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs Online Add-In supports the following:

  • Run GXL, GXC, and GEXQ formulas against live ERP data, with results written directly into the open workbook
  • Refresh report data on demand
  • View worksheet metadata including connected data sources and data freshness
  • Save reports back to Reports Center
  • Access help documentation and the Reporting Intelligence AI assistant

The Online Add-In is a new capability for Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs. It is not a replacement for the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs desktop add-in, which continues to support the full formula set and complete ribbon functionality.

Before You Start

Ensure the following prerequisites are met before setting up the add-in:

  • An active Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs license.
  • Access to the insightsoftware Platform and Reports Center.
  • A Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Excel Online.
  • A supported web browser: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari.

The Online Add-In runs entirely in the browser and does not require a desktop installation. The Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs desktop add-in must be installed and configured only if access to the additional functionality in the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab is required. Mac OS desktop and mobile or tablet configurations are not supported.

Get Started

Step 1: Install the Add-In

Install the add-in by downloading and installing it manually. Until the add-in is published to Microsoft AppSource, installation is done by side-loading the package directly.

To install the add-in:

  1. Download the Reporting Intelligence Online Add-In package from the link provided by your administrator.
  2. Side-load the add-in in Excel Online following the instructions provided with the package.
  3. Open Excel Online. The Reporting Intelligence tab appears on the ribbon.

Centralized deployment (IT administrators):

IT administrators can deploy the add-in to all accounts or to specific groups through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Accounts in scope receive the add-in automatically without a manual install. For instructions, see Microsoft's documentation on deploying Office Add-ins through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

There is no dependency on the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs desktop add-in to download or install the Online Add-In. The Online Add-In is available to all Reporting Intelligence accounts and can be installed at any time. Access to the additional functionality in the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab requires the desktop add-in to be installed and configured.

Step 2: Sign In

The first time the add-in is opened in a session, a sign-in prompt appears.

  1. In the Reporting Intelligence tab on the ribbon, select User Profile.
  2. In the Account Session pane, select Log in.
  3. Enter your insightsoftware Platform credentials and select Log in.

After sign-in, the add-in detects the license entitlement and displays the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab. If the account is already signed in to the insightsoftware Platform in another browser tab, the add-in may detect the existing session and prompt for confirmation before reusing it.

If the add-in is installed on an account without an active Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs license, the add-in displays a message indicating that a license is required. Contact your insightsoftware account representative to request access.

Step 3: Open a Report and Run Formulas

Open a report from Reports Center to begin running formulas against live ERP data.

  1. Sign in to the insightsoftware Platform and navigate to Reports Center.
  2. Locate the report and select Open in Excel Online.
  3. The report opens in the browser with the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab available.
  4. Select Recalculate from the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab to retrieve live data.

When execution is triggered, all GXL, GXC, and GEXQ formulas in the workbook are collected and sent as a single batch request to the Reporting Intelligence formula engine. The engine queries the ERP through Cloud Connector and writes results directly into the corresponding cells in the open workbook. Individual formula failures do not prevent other formulas from returning results. Failed formulas display an error value in the cell.

Formulas display a #PendingRun placeholder until execution is triggered. Results are not fetched automatically on open.

The Reporting Intelligence Ribbon Tab

After installing the Online Add-In, the Reporting Intelligence tab is immediately available on the ribbon. The following options are accessible before sign-in:

  • User Profile: Opens the Account Session pane. Use this option to log in to the insightsoftware Platform, log out, or switch accounts.
  • Platform: Prompts for authentication if not already signed in, then navigates to the Reporting Intelligence application.
  • AI Lineos: Opens the AI assistant in the task pane. AI Doc Assist and AI Data Assist are available based on the account connection. Access requires authentication in the insightsoftware Platform.
  • Help: Opens documentation in a new browser tab. The destination depends on the account state:
    • Authenticated with a Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs connection: opens the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs help.
    • Authenticated with a Reporting Intelligence for BC Cloud connection: opens the Reporting Intelligence for BC Cloud help.
    • Not authenticated: opens the general Reporting Intelligence help page.

After sign-in with a valid Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs license, the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab appears and provides access to formula recalculation and report management actions.

At launch, only formula recalculation functionality is active in the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab. All other ribbon buttons are visible but unavailable and will be enabled in future releases.

Ribbon Limitations in Excel Online

Excel Online imposes the following limitations on add-in ribbons that do not apply to the desktop add-in:

  • Toggle buttons are replaced by menu buttons.
  • Ribbon buttons and groups cannot be hidden.
  • Tooltips do not display on hover.
  • Small-sized ribbon buttons are not supported.

Use the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs desktop add-in for tasks that require ribbon functionality not yet active in the Online Add-In.

Supported Formulas

The following formulas are supported in the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs Online Add-In at launch:

Formula Description
GXL Retrieves general ledger data from the connected ERP. Used for balance and transaction-level queries.
GXC Retrieves data using a custom SQL query or predefined connection query.
GEXQ Executes an extended query against the connected ERP data source.

Formula results are cached at the organization level for performance. Repeated execution of the same formula against the same data source returns cached results within the cache window before re-querying the ERP.

Unsupported Formulas

If a report contains Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs formulas that are not supported in the Online Add-In, the add-in displays a notification identifying the unsupported formulas and directing you to open the report in the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs desktop add-in instead.

All Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs formulas not listed in the table above are not supported in the Online Add-In at this time. The full formula set remains available in the desktop add-in.

Working with Reports

Refresh Report Data

Select the Recalculate action to retrieve the most current data from the ERP at any time.

  1. Open a report in Excel Online.
  2. In the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab, select Recalculate.
  3. The add-in sends all supported formulas in the workbook as a batch request and writes results into the worksheet.

Save a Report to Reports Center

  1. In the Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs ribbon tab, select Save to Reports Center.
  2. Confirm the save action.
  3. The report is saved back to its original location in Reports Center.

Viewing Worksheet Metadata

The Reporting Intelligence task pane displays metadata about the active worksheet to help assess report dependencies and data currency.

Data Source

The task pane shows which ERP data source or sources the worksheet is connected to, including the connection name, type, and status. Verify this information before refreshing to confirm the worksheet is connected to the correct data source.

Data Age and Freshness

The task pane shows when each connected data source was last queried, with color-coded freshness indicators and relative time labels to help identify stale data at a glance.
