Get Started with Intelligence Layer

The Intelligence Layer is a workspace where built-in Intelligent Agents analyze your financial report data behind the scenes. They deliver actionable insights that support strategic business decisions. This topic enables you to quickly create Rules based on which the Intelligent Agents perform data analysis.

Before You Start

Make sure that the following conditions are fulfilled:

  • You are a Reports Center user.
  • Make sure there are reports in your system that have been run at least once. For more information, refer to Schedule Reports.
  • The report data has been published to Business Views. For more information, refer to Create Rules.

Step 1: Create a Rule

In this step, you set up a Rule in the Intelligence Layer. A Rule defines what the Rule Agent should monitor in your report data.

  1. Navigate to Reporting Intelligence > Intelligence Layer > Configure > Rules and click Create Rule.
  2. Select a business view from the dropdown and click Next. The Rule Agent suggests Rules based on your data.
  3. Select one of the suggested Rules, or type your own monitoring criteria in the Label field. As you type, the software offers suggestions to complete your Rule.
  4. Give the Rule a name and click Next.
  5. In Add Subscribers, enter the email addresses of users who should receive results. Click Create Rule.

Your Rule is now active. When the report runs, the Rule Agent analyzes the Business View and generates Rules Results.

Note: Additionally, for each report that's been run, the Insights Agent produces Insights. In the next step, you will review Rule Results or Insights.

Step 2: Review Results of Data Analysis

Now that you have a scheduled report and created a Rule, the Intelligent Agents will analyze your data each time the report runs. Results appear in Reporting Intelligence > Intelligence Layer > Results.

  • Rule results are generated by the Rule Agent based on the monitoring criteria you defined in Step 3. To review them follow these steps:
    1. Navigate to Reporting Intelligence > Intelligence Layer > Results.
    2. Click any result in the list. The software opens the Details view with a Result Summary and Impact and Recommendations.
    3. (Optional) Click Access Report in Excel to investigate the source data directly.
  • Insights are enabled by default. The Insights Agent automatically analyzes your report data each time a report runs and surfaces patterns it discovers - without you having to define any criteria. To review Insights, follow these steps:
    1. In Results, look for entries marked as Insights. These appear alongside your Rule results after a report has run.
    2. Click an Insight to view its summary, impact, and recommendations.
    3. (Optional) Click Access Report in Excel to investigate the source data directly.

Note: The newest Rule Results and Insights will also be displayed in Reporting Intelligence > Home under Recent Results section.
